Lipid specialists include physicians and allied health professionals—such as pharmacists, nurse practitioners and dietitians—who have training and expertise in lipid disorders, including FH.
Many lipid specialists work in lipid clinics where they can collectively treat patients from the entire spectrum of medicine. Lipid clinics also can perform tests that help determine if and what kind of inherited cholesterol disorder a patient has as well as assess a patient’s risk for premature coronary heart disease.
In addition, lipid specialists are skilled at managing the possible interactions and side effects that may occur when patients take medications prescribed to treat FH.
