Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon honey or granulated sugar
  • 2.5 teaspoons yeast or 1 package instant, fast acting yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 cups bread flour or ½ white and ½ whole wheat

Directions

  • Place warm water in a medium size bowl, add honey/sugar and whisk until the sweetener is dissolved into the water.
  • Add the yeast and allow to proof for approximately 5 minutes (until it looks foamy).
  • Add the salt and whisk together. Slowly add the flour about one half cup at a time and stir well until a dough forms.
  • Knead for approximately 10 minutes.
  • Allow to rise, covered in a warm place (the microwave is an excellent place). This will take about 1.5 hours.
  • Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  • Prepare the loaf pan by lightly spraying a non-stick cooking spray, then dust with flour.
  • Shape dough into a log/loaf shape. Allow to rise again and double in size should take another hour or so.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.
  • Remove and allow to cool when done. The loaf should be a nice golden brown in color and sound hollow when the top is tapped.
