The W. Virgil Brown Distinguished Achievement Award and Lectureship was established to honor its namesake, a founder of the NLA whose contributions to the field of lipidology and the presenting organizations are unparalleled.

Recognizes a NLA member who demonstrates continued excellence in clinical care of patients with lipid disorders and/or excellence in education in the field of clinical lipidology.

Akira Endo Award

Created in honor of the scientist responsible for the discovery of statins, the drug group that has had the greatest demonstrable impact on arteriosclerosis of any pharmacological therapy in the history of medicine, Akira Endo, PhD. This award intends to recognize those responsible for the development of new therapies documented to prevent cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis.

The Donald Hunninghake, MD, Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) Abstract Award

Awarded at the NLA Scientific Sessions – the preeminent lipidology educational event of the year – the Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) Abstract Award is a tribute to the lasting achievements of Dr. Hunninghake.
